" Photographer. She is known primarily for her photographic work portraying the traditions and festivals all around Spain, which has brought her international recognition. She was the first Spanish woman to work in the Magnum photojournalism agency. "

She was born in Puertollano (Ciudad Real) in 1949. She taught photography at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Complutense University in Madrid until 2007. In 1973 she obtained a grant from the Juan March Foundation for a photography project on hidden Spain, for which she would take over 15,000 photographs over a period of 16 years. She is the author of more than 850 documentaries made between 1973 and 1988 across the whole of Spain. She has never considered herself a press photographer, as her work has been based on her academic activity. She uses black and white for her more intimate and personal photos, and colour for photos in which she aims for a more objective approach.
