His full name is Sebastián Domínguez Lozano. He was born in Cádiz, in 1960. He inherited his love of music from his father, who was passionate about flamenco. At the age of eight he was given a guitar and began teaching himself to play, copying the music he heard on records. His interest in piano started when he was 12, and he soon fell in love with the instrument. At 18 he made his first record with the group CAI, and in the 1980s he entered the international jazz scene with the group Hiscadix. In 1992 he created the Chano Domínguez Trío, fusing the rhythms of flamenco with the musical forms of jazz. After receiving several professional awards, he released his first solo record. Over the next few years he would partner with well-known Spanish and international artists, including Michel Camilo, Jorge Pardo, and Martirio, to create significant works. In 2000 he took part in Fernando Trueba’s Calle 54 project, where Chano Domínguez was the only Spanish musician, alongside such great Latin jazz artists as Tito Puente, Chucho Valdés, and Eliane Elias. Today he is still touring, making records, and finding new musical challenges in fusion.
