Blanca Portillo was born in Madrid in 1963. After graduating from the Royal Higher School of Dramatic Art and Dance, in the 1980s she started appearing in a number of theatrical productions ("Blood Wedding", "El mal de la juventud", "A Winter's Tale", "Marat-Sade"….), frequently taking on challenging roles. The film "Entre rojas" (1995) was her first screen role. In 1999 she starred in the television series "7 vidas", which brought her widespread popularity. She continued her career in the theatre and spent a period in Argentina, where in 2004 she starred in "La hija del aire", by Calderón, in what was one of her most memorable performances. This was the start of a period marked by a string of outstanding performances and collaborations in cutting-edge theatrical projects. She has also directed on occasion, and in 2011 headed the Classical Theatre Festival in Mérida. She combines stage and screen work, and has met with great acclaim for her participation in films such as "Volver" by Almodóvar and "Siete mesas de billar francés" by Gracia Querejeta.
