He was born in Malaga in 1928 into a family of humble origins. He did his military service in Madrid, while training with Maestro Legaza. He entered a competition organised by Radio Madrid and won first prize. This event marked the start of his recording career and he embarked on a series of tours around Spain. He made his theatre debut in the Gran Teatro in Cordoba, and staged his own show, 'Hechizo' (1954), in the Calderón theatre in Madrid, before taking it on tour around Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico and various European countries. He starred in various films including particularly 'El pescador de coplas', 'Esa voz es una mina', 'La hija de Juan Simón' and 'El Cristo de los faroles'. He died in March 1992.
