In the 1950s his work took a sharp turn towards realistic precision. He distanced himself from hyper-realism by using traditional techniques and methods, and by assuming an intimate and lyrical style. His subject matter ranges from views of Madrid, family portraits, everyday objects and elements from nature. In 1993 he was elected a member of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
