José Antonio Domínguez Banderas was born in Benalmádena (Malaga) in 1960, where he studied drama. He began his career working in a variety of theatre companies until he decided to move to Madrid in 1979, where he began working in the cinema in small roles. In the 1980s he worked in Pedro Almodóvar's first films. With the success of “Women on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown” (1988), he gained international fame and decided to try his hand at American cinema. In 1991 he starred in the Hollywood film “The Kings of Mambo Play Songs of Love”. Since then his career has been mainly in the United States. He has worked with many stars, including Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Madonna. In 1999 he directed “Crazy in Alabama” and in 2006 “El camino de los ingleses" (Summer Rain).
