Date of birth

"Industrial designer. He is an essential figure due to his contribution to promoting and developing industrial design both in Spain and overseas."

Born in Barcelona in 1929, he was self-taught in an era when design was not recognised as such in Spain, and made several trips to France, Switzerland and London to gain experience. He created his own studio in Barcelona in 1958: the Centro de Diseño Industrial (CDI). Highlights in his most emblematic designs include the packaging to Agua Brava, the Moulinex blender, the Copenhagen ashtrays or the Olympic torch at Barcelona 92. His simple functional designs reflect a constant search for what he calls the ‘ethics and aesthetics of utility’. Alongside his work as a designer, he has carried out important activities to promote and recognise design, holding major positions at designer groups and associations.

National Design Award (1987)
