"Actor. He has starred in more than 100 films and is one of Spain’s most popular actors. In the 1970s, a type of film was called ‘landismo’ after him."

He was born in Pamplona, Navarre in 1933. His first contact with the stage was at the Español Universitario Theatre in San Sebastian. In 1958 he moved to Madrid. His first cinema role came in 1962, as one of the main characters in José María Forqué’s musical ‘Atraco a las tres’. In the 1970s, he starred in a hugely popular genre of comic films, which were eventually dubbed ‘landismo’. His career changed direction at the end of the 1970s, and he displayed his powers of drama in films, such as ‘El puente’, ‘Los Santos Inocentes’, ‘El crack’ and ‘Tata Mía’, which won him the critics’ approval. He died in Madrid in 2013.
