Born in Zamora in 1926, he studied Classical Philology at the University of Salamanca with Antonio Tovar. After supporting the student revolt in 1965, he was removed from his professorship and exiled himself in Paris four years later where, between 1970 and 1976, he held the post of ‘maître assistant’ at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Lille. After the Expulsion Decree was repealed in November 1975, he returned to his professorship in Latin Philology at the Complutense University in Madrid where he remained until his retirement. He has made valuable contributions as a philologist, such as his Teoría general sobre el lenguaje. He has also written essential works as a philosopher, such as De Dios y contra la realidad. In addition, he has written standout poetry. He died on 1 November, 2012.
