"Actor, playwright, director and writer. He was one of the most important theatre directors in the country."

Born in Barcelona in 1928, he started out as an actor on Radio Barcelona in 1945. He debuted on the stage with the Ramón Martori company with a role in the work Vacaciones. In the Burning Darkness by Buero Vallejo was his debut at the María Guerrero Theatre in Madrid in 1950. In the coming years, he performed in different series for Spanish Television – a medium he would return to at different times throughout his career. In 1965 he was named director of the Teatro Español and in 1978 took over at the National Drama Centre. He debuted some of his most famous works for the stage in the 1980s, such as I Get Off at the Next Stop, What About You? After a life dedicated to the stage, he died in Madrid on 21st January 2002.
