It is located on the top floor of the Alcázar fortress in Toledo. The National Army Museum is also housed in this emblematic building in the same city.

Highlights of the library’s possessions include the Borbón-Lorenzana collection. Its origins date from the 18th century, from the Episcopal library of Cardenal Lorenzana. The collection comprises over 400 incunabula, almost 700 manuscripts and over 100,000 printed volumes from between the 16th and 19th centuries. Some of the most significant pieces are, for example, the Introductiones latinae by Antonio de Nebrija, a Plantin Bible or works with sumptuous bindings and Mudéjar covers.
