The library of the Royal Academy of History has a collection of great value for the study and investigation of the history of Spain and of Latin America.

The collection includes books, pamphlets, codices and handwritten documents ranging from the high Middle Ages to the present day, as well as works of investigation by members of the Academy and by other historians. Among the over 400,000 printed volumes there are 200 incunabula. There is also an outstanding collection of codices: these comprise about one hundred works including such unique items as an illuminated Beatus dating from the 11th century, the 10th-century Emilianense codices, and an Etymologiae of Saint Isidore. There are also items which are of particular importance for the study of the history of America such as the collection of Juan Bautista Muñoz.

Quisio Bible

With Visigoth script, it is also known as the “Gothic Bible of San Millán” as it was found in the San Millán Monastery and is a copy of a 7th-century Bible.

Commentaria in Apocalipsin, by Beatus of Liébana

This is one of the best known “Beatus”: manuscript codices which copy the “Comment on the Book of the Apocalypse of Saint John” produced by Beatus of Liébana, Abbot of the Santo Toribio Monastery in the 8th century.
