Delacroix, Degas, Monet, Renoir, Liebermann, Vincent van Gogh and Friedrich are among the great artists represented in the exhibition. The selection of works on show range from the Romantic era to Impressionism, Late Impressionism, the artist colony at Worpswede, and Expressionism. The collection as a whole includes paintings, sculpture, engravings and drawings.
This exhibition juxtaposes the Romantic paintings of Friedrich and Delacroix and compares the works of French and German Impressionists, while Vincent van Gogh’s “Field with Poppies” evokes the major dispute that rocked Bremen in 1911. There are also works by Paula Modersohn-Becker, the Worpswede painters, Max Beckmann, and other important figures who shook up the German and French art scene.
